And the Xmas number one is?

Electronic Arts does it again, maybe we'll have to change to the name of Christmas to Need for Speed Day.

The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association, ELSPA, has announced which game will top the UK all-formats chart for Christmas.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted has claimed the top spot for Electronic Arts. It's quite a coup as Need for Speed: Underground 2 was last year's Christmas number one. I wouldn't bet against the next Need for Speed game topping the chart next Christmas.

"This is truly astonishing for Electronic Arts," said Roger Bennett, ELSPA director general. "To win two Christmas number ones in a row is a remarkable achievement, but three consecutive number ones is incredible, especially with so many strong brands and titles in contention for this year's chart."

"Betting has been very strong since the initial odds were announced," said David McMorrow, Marketing Manager at bookmaker Ladbrokes. "Need for Speed: Most Wanted emerged as a favourite early on and despite competition from King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia and Call of Duty 2, has held its own and repeated the remarkable success of its predecessor."

The full Christmas computer and videogames chart:

  1. Need for Speed: Most Wanted - EA (PEGI 3+)
  2. King Kong: Official Game of the Movie - Ubisoft (PEGI 12+)
  3. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One - Activision (BBFC 15)
  4. FIFA 06 - EA (PEGI 3+)
  5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - EA (PEGI 7+)
  6. Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - Konami (PEGI 3+)
  7. Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - Buena Vista Games (BBFC PG)
  8. Star Wars: Battlefront II - Lucasarts (PEGI 12+)
  9. True Crime: New York City - Activision (BBFC 18)
  10. The Sims 2 - EA (PEGI 12+)

Pretty goog game though this year. Of course, I doubt the quality would have affected sales at all.
